In this article we will see about the Six distinct trigonometric ratios. SIN
θ, COS θ, TAN
θ AND THEIR THREE RECIPROCALS.
These trigonometric ratios are ratios of sides of a triangle and hence are real numbers.
SIN θ:
Full form - sine θ
SIN θ = opposite side/hypotenuse = y/r
COS θ:
Full form: Cosine θ
COS θ = Adjacent side / hypotenuse = x/r
TAN θ:
Full form: Tangent θ
TAN θ = Opposite side / Adjacent Side = y/x
Now their reciprocals are -
Co-Tangent θ or in short COT θ = 1/(tan θ) = x/y
Co-secant θ or in short COSEC θ = 1/ (sin θ) = r/y
Secant θ or in-short SEC θ = 1/(cos θ) = r/x
Note:
1. The Trigonometric ratios being ratios of lengths of sides of a right angled triangle (and not length itself) defined by the vector point P along with its projections onto x and y axis in cartesian space (coordinate space), it is independent of the length of the vector OP.
2. The values are dependent only on the angle of measure θ.
